Things seem to have settled down ... a bit

After having had 1539 'hits' yesterday, things have settled down a bit today.

So far this blog has had just over 500 'hits' today, and although this is still well over what I would normally expect, it seems to be dropping back towards a more normal level.

I still don't know what caused this surge; I can hope that it is down to a sudden rise in people interested in wargaming in general and my ramblings in particular ... but I suspect that it is more likely due to a computer glitch or a virus attack somewhere on the Internet.

Let's hope that everything returns to normal soon!

  2. Ah, what a nice link for them to do! You must be happy to know that there's no mysterious Internet glitch causing it all, and it's genuine traffic!

  4. Thresh et al,

Thanks for pointing this out to me; it has been a very awe-inspiring event!

I never, ever thought – even in my wildest dreams – that anyone at one of the large, commercial wargames websites would bother to read a blog like mine ... and then put in a link to it! As CWT says, it was a nice thing for them to do.

It only shows how important Edward Woodward was to so many people when they started out in wargaming. His character – Callan – gave a lot of new wargamers a feeling of confidence and self esteem. He made it ‘cool’ to be a wargamer because he showed that you could ‘play with toy soldiers’ and still be an Alpha Male.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. You might investigate installing a service like StatCounter, which not only counts hits but gives you considerable information about where readers are coming from (and more).

  6. EastwoodDC,

Thanks for the tip. I thought that I was supposed to get that information from my current hit counter provider but somehow it has never worked.

    All the best,

    Bob
